Ultimate Fly Fishing Starter Kits

I’ve had a love/hate relationship with learning to fly fish. I grew up in Minnesota, so my thing was fishing for walleyes. Mostly trolling with gear suited for The Land of 10,000 Lakes and – once or twice a year – remote regions of Canada.

But, when I was growing up, my grandparents had a cabin on the edge of Northeast Yellowstone just outside of Cooke City-Silver Gate, Montana. They were AVID fly fishermen. And I picked up early in my life that using my spinning gear to land the lofty trout was, how do I say it, uncouth.

Try as I might, I just never got the hang of the technique of fly fishing. As a matter of fact, my first time out, I “back-casted” right into my mouth and hooked my own tongue. Yes, I’m embarrassed to admit, I caught myself.

Now I know the problem I was having with starting this elusive activity of fly fishing was I didn’t have proper training and proper gear. And of course, enough experience.

Fortunately, since the whole idea of No Huddle Life is diving into my bucket-list of outdoor adventures and doing my best to have some modicum of success, I've finally just begun to have some idea of how to fly fish for trout. It’s been a lifetime goal, and I can attest to reaching the first rung of the ladder.
